Excerpt-

Luc relaxed the muscles in his arms and did the one thing he really didn’t want to. He set Cassie on her feet. Whoever had been hammering on the door had stopped, but the damage was done. Regret was written all over her pretty face. Scrubbing a hand over his stubbled jaw, he drew in a deep breath and let it out slowly.

“Luc,” he said

Cassie’s gaze met his, one delicate eyebrow arched.

“My name. It’s Lucas Wilhelm. I’m head of McDermott Security, a position I’ve held for ten years.” Luc added the last part in the hope of reassuring her.

“Oh. Um, well…” She lowered her eyes, hiding the uncertainty swirling in their honey-coloured depths.

Placing two fingers under her chin, he tipped her head back until her gaze met his once more. “Don’t back down now, Cass. Where’s the woman who’s fought me for control for the last couple of hours gone?”

She shook her head, dislodging his fingers. “She just had common sense kissed right out of her.”

The small smile tugging at the corner of her mouth pulled at his gut and eased his mind. He hadn’t been sure at first, but now he didn’t doubt she’d bounce back from their mind-numbing lip-lock. Luc had expected they’d be explosive, he just hadn’t realised how unstable their chemistry was. He’d have to keep his hands off her until they were in more suitable surroundings or they’d find themselves sans clothes. There was one sure-fire way to keep her at a distance though. Strip her of control.

“As of now, this party is over.”

“What?” Her eyes narrowed to slits.

If looks could kill, the one she aimed his way would slice him to ribbons, and Luc figured she’d used it to de-ball many a man before him. Good thing he’d spent years developing a tough exterior. Although she’d found a way under his skin already, he wasn’t about to cower beneath her hostile stare. Luc embraced the hum in his veins. The zap delivered courtesy of her returning ballsy attitude. He’d never gone looking for a fight. Sure he’d been in plenty, but he’d never started one. Except now. With Cassie. And there was no denying the thrill thrumming in his blood. He was more than looking forward to their combat. He was eager for it to begin.

“As you can hear, there’s no longer music blasting through the house and that’s thanks to Lachlan McDermott ripping out power cables. If I were you, I wouldn’t be surprised when your DJ files a damage report and insurance claim.” Luc smiled as a growl rumbled in her throat. He’d never heard that particular sound from a woman, and he’d certainly never found it a turn on coming from any man, but there was no mistaking the tightening of his sac or the hardening of his erection.

“Damn men.” Cassie shoved passed him and flung open the door, using it to push him out of the way.

Before he got his head in gear and made it out from behind the door, she’d disappeared into the kitchen. With long strides, Luc followed only to witness her sexy arse vanish through the far doorway. Covering the distance in seconds, he found his men doing as he’d ordered. Between them and Cassie’s staff, the guests were quickly being ushered from the house in a tidal wave of drunkenness. His search for Cassie was hindered by the surge of bodies moving towards the front door, with his chances to spot her zero he let himself be swept up in the tide. When he reached the front yard, hire cars and drivers lined the street. Inebriated partiers tumbled into backseats, car doors slammed and departing vehicles were quickly swallowed up by the night.

With the party down to the last few stragglers, he turned back to the house determined to find Cassie while his men dealt with the remaining guests. He found her back in the kitchen. Leaning his shoulder against the doorframe, he folded his arms, crossed one ankle over the other and watched as she gave orders while packing box after box with glasses. The image of efficiency, her movements were economical and fluid, her speed and accuracy proving she’d done this a thousand times before. Luc relaxed and enjoyed the view. His pants grew snug and he had to shift his stance to alleviate the pressure.

Tara Lain – writer of the Beautiful Boys of Romance

RC ~ Today’s guest is Tara Lain. I was lucky enough to ‘meet’ Tara when we were both contracted by the same publishing house, Etopia Press. And each year at RT we manage to grab a few seconds to say hi in person. And I have to say she’s one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. Now you all get to meet her too! Take it away Tara!

Ready to Meet the Beautiful Boys of Romance?

Hi everyone. I’m Tara Lain and I write the Beautiful Boys of Romance. Thank you so much to the Down Under Divas for inviting me today to their MM romance celebration!  There’s some FREE goodies down at the bottom of this blog so be sure to check them out.

Yep, I write MM romance. Have you ever read one? I’m guessing many of you have but If not, you might want to give it a try. After all, the average reader of MM romance is a woman between 20 and 60. And most writers of MM romance are women. Surprising, huh?

I had never read M/M romance until a few years ago.  In fact, I didn’t even know that M/M fiction existed and, if I had known, it wouldn’t have occurred to me to read it. I didn’t own an e-reader so I bought my paperbacks from Amazon. But I did like erotic romance. I was reading a favorite  erotic romance author’s MF paranormal books and loved them, so I ordered another book of hers from Amazon without reading the blurb! Imagine my surprise when it arrived and was a M/M book. I started to read, kind of looking over my shoulder to be sure no one was watching!  I loved it and was totally hooked! I was writing my first novel at the time, a MF romance about an older female scientist who has a passion for her younger male research partner. I loved the dynamics of the MM so much, I added another man to the story and Genetic Attraction was born. It’s an award-winning MMF ménage. Then I had to go back and explain how the two men fell in love in The Scientist and the Supermodel. Just like that, I was a MM writer!

TL_GeneticAttraction_coverin

Now I write my Beautiful Boys of Romance in all descriptions. One of my recent releases is a quirky, LGBT contemporary erotic romance called Hearts and Flour about the unlikely attraction between a vegan, raw-food fanatic and a cupcake baker.

I currently have 17 published books, three more in various stages of contracting, and three works-in-progress. All but one have either gay or bisexual heroes. As you can tell, I’m thoroughly hooked on writing MM fiction. Here are a few things I’ve learned reading and writing male/male books:

  • Male/male books have fewer gender stereotypes. It’s not unusual in these books for both men to be hunky alphas, for one of them to be more effeminate but still very dominant, or any combination. My artist character in Fire Balls is tiny and effeminate but also a black belt in karate and a dominant in bed, while big, hunky JJ LaRousse in Snow Balls is more queen than quarterback.
  • If you are a female reader, you don’t have a woman in these books with whom you automatically identify so you get the experience of identifying with a man. And you get to choose which one or ones you most want to relate to.
  • If you’re a gay man reading a M/M book, you get to see your world imagined by someone who has no limitations of your real life constraining the fantasy. No “but that never happened to me so it can’t happen.” You get a bigger fantasy.
  • You get to see two men (or more if you read my books LOL) in love which is very cool. It’s not the same as women in love with men. It’s just not. Since, for many male couples, marriage and family isn’t yet the common practice (hope it will be soon), the relationship has to be about more than security or fulfilling family or societal expectations. There’s a “pure love” quality to MM romance which I find just irresistible.
  • Gay or bisexual men still bear huge burdens of discrimination so, even if those issues play a small role in the story, you get to admire the bravery of men who declare their love for each other.
  • Men can be just as sappy and emotional as women. I know. I read MM romances by male writers too.  The deeply felt emotions pour from the pages and the ever-after is just as happy.
  • And, of course, the simplest reason. If like me you adore men, then two is better!

I think authors of gay romance contribute to people’s understanding of the world and help us see, as Jambrea said, that sex is sex and love is love. I’ve had and continue to have many gay friends who have made my life better and I’m happy, in a small way,  to be able to pay that forward.

But all the serious stuff aside, if you own an ereader, you don’t even have to glance over your shoulder like I did to see who’s looking!  LOL I hope you’ll let some beautiful boys creep into your reading among those alpha males and feisty females.  Bet you’ll be a convert too.

I have a FREE read for you. Over at the MM Romance Group on Goodreads, you can download my newest release, Love You So Hard. This story was written to a prompt from a reader and here is the picture I used as inspiration!

BottomYousohard

I also hope you’ll come over and check out my brand new website www.taralain.com . I just switched over to the new format, and hope you like it. Leave me a comment and let me know if you do.

Last but not least, leave me a comment with your email on this blog post and I’ll give one commenter an ebook copy of Hearts and Flour.

And don’t forget my next release is Cataclysmic Shift, a MM paranormal, and it’s out July 23rd!

Thanks so much for coming by! : )

You might wonder what the title of this post has to do with our theme for this month but bare with me, it fits. 🙂

Let me start by saying way back all those years ago when I was young and can no longer remember I shared a house with a gay couple. They were openly gay (actually they were both bi) when it wasn’t in their best interests to be so. In fact I remember one night coming home late to find David on the back step looking the worse for wear because someone on the train had taken offence to him and his choice. It was a sad reality that he and his partner Jimmy lived with every day. I couldn’t and still don’t get the hate directed at someone for being who they are. I mean you don’t go round bashing people because they don’t like peanut butter or Vegemite or coffee do you? So why go there just because of someone’s sexual preference? Unfortunately we have this level of hatred in our world and it’s not just directed at those who we’re honoring this month. Living with David and Jim was an amazing experience for one very simple reason. THEY didn’t discriminate or hate anybody! It didn’t matter to them one way or another, they accepted everyone as a friend. It’s part of the reason I love LOVE so much. It knows no bounds. And that’s exactly how it should be.

Now when I write I write about love. Well, duh, I am a romance author. 🙂 But when I set out to write a story my characters are very much in the drivers seat. I’m in the back madly scribbling notes. 😉 So when I set out to write a novella set around Sydney’s famous Bondi Beach I had the title, Bondi Beach Boys and the vague idea that it would be a menage. A mfm menage. Oh boy, was I wrong about that. Nate and Sam made it pretty obvious from the beginning that I’d got their story wrong. By the end of the first chapter they’d set me straight (or not) and I was on my way to writing my first mmf menage. So I ‘accidentally’ went there. 🙂

What’s a girl to do with two sexy Aussie surfers? Ride the waves, of course…

After weeks of lusting over a couple of hot surfers, Piper Doyle has the opportunity to turn fantasy into reality. There’s just one problem—they’re her new clients. When the men offer a no-strings-attached affair, Piper has a decision to make, one her body made for her weeks ago when she first started watching “her boys.” She can’t risk the job that could make or break her career, but she sure as hell isn’t going to pass up this chance to live out her wildest dreams…

Sam Bridges and Nate Russo share everything, from their home to their business to the occasional woman. Even themselves. But they’ve never shared what they feel for Piper. What starts out as hot sex with a willing woman turns into something none of them expected—but what’s wrong with a few strings on a hot summer day at the beach…

Excerpt –

He tossed the wet towels in the laundry as he strolled past; he’d throw them in the washer after their meeting. He walked through the bedroom and headed straight for the bathroom. Stripping out of his shorts, he stepped into the large shower recess, the supersized area one of his biggest indulgences. Multiple jets angled to spray every part of the body with steaming water, and an alcove with a bench seat and a glass wall looked out over the ocean, all pleasure for the senses. Sam reached for the soap and lathered it in his hands.

“Need some help with that?” Nate asked.

“I’d love some, but we don’t have time for that right now.” Sam eyed the bulge in the front of Nate’s pants. “What’s got you all hot and bothered?”

“The brunette.”

Sam arched a brow. “Really?”

Nate laughed. “Like I don’t know you’ve been jerking off to the image of her in your head for the last few weeks.”

Sighing, Sam turned under the spray to rinse off. His friend was right; the little brunette had gotten under his skin in a big way. And considering he didn’t even know her name, never mind the color of her eyes, he was probably in big trouble.

“Don’t stress it. We’re in the same boat.” Nate held out a towel. “Tomorrow we get to know her.”

“Tomorrow,” Sam agreed, the word a promise and a prayer.

Nate made his way back to their office. He’d already rung Burt, their foreman, and knew the Baker Street job continued to be on schedule, he’d spoken to Emily at the bank about their overdraft, and he’d cleared the conference table ready for the meeting with the web designer. All that remained to do was to start the coffee. Sam walked in, his blond hair still damp from the shower, and Nate glanced at the clock to see if they had time for a quickie. They had thirty minutes until show time, plenty to get his rocks off and remove the raw edge he currently rode.

“Drop your pants.” He growled the words as he stalked across the room.

“Like that, is it?” Sam smiled with that know-it-all grin that always got Nate’s demanding nature riled up.

“Yes. Drop ’em.”

Sam turned his back, pushed his hips back, and wiggled his arse. “Make me.”

Nate almost crash-tackled him to the ground. In record time, he had the button and fly of Sam’s pants undone and the gorgeous cock hiding inside in his hand. He stroked hard, the way Sam liked it. A moan slipped from Sam’s throat and Nate ground his erection into the curve of his friend’s arse.

“I need…”

“I know.” Sam broke from his grasp and pushed his pants down. He always knew how to soothe the savage inside Nate. They’d been friends long before they’d become lovers, and Nate still thanked the woman who’d shown them this other side of themselves. Fumbling with his belt, he struggled to control his trembling fingers.

“Jeez, she’s really got you on edge.” Sam brushed Nate’s hands aside and dispensed with Nate’s trousers.

“Totally.”

“Good. We’re in the same place then.”

“No offense, but I’m gonna pretend you’re her when I bury my cock in your arse.”

“None taken.” Sam slid a condom down his length, sending fire into Nate’s balls and a shudder up his spine. “I’ll be doing the same when I fuck you.”

Nate laughed as he shoved Sam over to the table. “Hold on.”

On The Diva Couch with Coleen Kwan

Today we have Coleen Kwan on the inquisition chair Diva Couch. 🙂

RC: What five items would you take if you had to get out of your house in 5 mins or less

CK: Photo albums, kids’ artworks, my logins/passwords cheat sheet,  glasses, Chapstick.

RC: Tell us about the worst day job you ever had

CK: When I was a student I had a part-time job at a shoe shop. Every minute felt like an hour. I’m a terrible salesperson, so I didn’t sell many shoes. The only interesting part was using the shoe stretcher to soften up the leather.

RC: If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you’d buy for yourself?

CK: I’d buy myself a new ereader! My current one is a few years old but still working fine so I don’t have an excuse to replace it, but I have my eye on the latest Sony one.

RC: What super power would you like to have and why?

CK: I would love to be able to fly. Just think what an asset that would be in Sydney! Instead of sitting in a traffic jam on Parramatta Road, I’d be zooming in the air high above the chaos.

RC: What food will you absolutely not eat?

CK: Scallops and crab, because I’m allergic to both! Other things I’d hate to eat are brains and tongue.

RC: Describe your favorite outfit

CK: In summer, shorts and singlet. In winter, jeans and comfy sweater.

RC: What is your worst vice or habit?

CK: I spend way too much time checking my Amazon rankings! That has to be my number one time waster.

RC: As you’re typing the answers to these questions, what are you wearing? (that’s not a naughty question unless you have a dirty mind)

CK: I’m wearing old linen three-quarter pants, an unironed T-shirt with a cat on it, and rubber thongs. Yes, the height of fashion — NOT!

RC: If you could kiss any fictional hero from history, who would it be?

CK: Would have to be Francis Crawford from the Lymond Chronicles. I spent much of my teenage years buried in those books, trying to figure out the man. He’s an enigma, but a very attractive one.

RC: Do you prefer a hairy or smooth chest?

CK: Depends on the owner of the chest! If he’s the right guy then it doesn’t matter if his chest is hairy or smooth. (Although I wish the odd hairy chest would appear on book covers these days.)

RC: Best writing advice ever received

CK: “You write. That’s the hard bit that nobody sees. You write on the good days and you write on the lousy days. Like a shark, you have to keep moving forward or you die. Writing may or may not be your salvation; it might or might not be your destiny. But that does not matter. What matters right now are the words, one after another. Find the next word. Write it down. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.”
