The Divas Take Over The Australian Romance Readers Convention

arrc2015_banner_dark_200x200Yes, yes we are.

All four of us Divas are not only signing books at the Australian Romance Readers Convention in Canberra from May 6-8, but we’re also speaking on a variety of panels. Cause we are bloody awesome.

I’m speaking on the Rockin’ Our World panel which looks at rockstar romances and Out of the Closet, a panel about GLBT romances and the issues faced by the characters in them.

Rockin’ Our World

Hot, sensitive and unyielding, rockstars are the wild men (and women) of the contemporary romance scene. For many people their first object of adoration was long haired guy with the mic belting out stories of love, lust, and heartbreak, or the silent and mysterious type strumming his bass. It’s no surprise that rock stars have become such a popular addition to romance readers shelves.

Rockstars can rock a stage, and the readers! Join Lexxie Couper, Nalini Singh, Kylie Scott and Eden Summers as they share their entry point into the rock lifestyle, sources of inspiration, and how they turn a character’s band into a family unit to spawn multiple storylines. What’s next in their series, who do they love reading, and what rock star they would like to rock their world?

Out of the Closet

The panel will explore how queer romances are safe spaces to read and learn about difference and how being able to identify with a queer character in fiction breaks down barriers. We will also discuss the rising popularity of queer romance and its significant similarities with other genre romance. We will be looking at the whole spectrum of queer romance—m/m, f/f, bisexual, trans*, genderqueer, etc. Delegates will leave the session knowing that queer romance is accessible to all.

Bring your pens—there will be book recs!

I’m going to let the rest of the Divas share info about their panels (cause I’m nice like that), but for now I’d like to invite you all to come see us at ARRC. Trust me, this is one fun, friendly convention.

Love Is…

tumblr_n7cbt2X7tW1rxs1r1o1_500Being the week leading up to Valentines Day, I figured it might be fun to see how many awesome quotes about love we can collect.

I’m going to start the ball rolling with my favourite. I have no idea who the author of the quote is, but I like their style.

Stop waiting for Prince Charming. Get up and find him. The poor idiot may be stuck in a tree or something.”

Add your favourite quote about love to the list in the comments. Who knows…one person may get a surprise present on Valentines Day (hee hee hee)

I’d Like You To Meet Meg

My second Escape Publishing book, Until He Met Meg, released today! I guess this means that one sweet romance I released a while back wasn’t a fluke eh *wink*. See I’m not just sinful, I’m sweet too :).

Until He Met Meg

Meg Lacy came to Sydney to chase her dream, but the dream is somewhat elusive, so she finds herself unemployed, UntilHeMetMeg_Final (2)uninspired and on the verge of giving up. A chance encounter with wealthy single father Bryce Carlton gives her a temporary reprieve: a job as a nanny to his headstrong eight-year-old daughter.

The arrangement is supposed to be short-term, an easy way for her to save money while she pursues her dream. But her heart doesn’t understand, and before long she is growing attached to her charge and falling in love with a man determined not to risk his heart a second time.

When his first marriage ended Bryce vowed to never become seriously involved with another woman, but Meg turns his house, his life and his heart upside down.

She is his daughter’s nanny, he’s not the right man for her, and there are a million reasons why their relationship shouldn’t be. Everything was going according to plan…until he meets Meg.

I’m thrilled this book is now available to the world. I have a real soft spot for sweet, old fashioned romances, and if you do too this is definitely a book worth checking out.

Excerpt:

‘Find anything interesting?’

Startled, Meg almost dropped the frame as she spun around. Bryce Carlton was standing in the doorway, arms crossed over his chest, looking none too impressed to find her nosing around his study. Hastily, Meg put the photo back where she had found it, feeling her cheeks wash with heat. ‘I’m sorry. I was just…’

‘Snooping?’ he filled in as he crossed the room to glance at the photo she had been looking at. ‘My parents, if you must know. Lawrence and Margaret.’

At his nearness Meg felt a hum in her blood and she had to resist the urge to step back. ‘They’re a nice-looking couple.’

‘They were. They died in a plane crash almost ten years ago.’

‘Oh. I’m sorry.’ Such an inane, inadequate thing to say, as Meg well knew. She found herself blurting, ‘I shouldn’t have said that. My mother died when I was fifteen. I always hated it when people said how sorry they were, as if it was their fault.’

He regarded her in steady silence. She felt his gaze and turned to meet it. There was a softness in his eyes she hadn’t seen before. It reminded her of that moment in the taxi, when she’d been talking about her wish to work in design. They’d shared a flash of kinship, as though they weren’t two utterly different people from separate worlds meeting by chance and nothing more. Here, in the quiet of his den, the sensation felt shockingly intimate.

Meg rubbed her arms again, clenching her teeth so they didn’t chatter. Ridiculous that a heavy sadness should fill her at the idea of this man’s loss. To lose two parents at the same time must have been horrendous. Her mother’s cancer diagnosis, and the painfully short journey to her ultimate death, had been devastating to Meg because they had been so close. But at least she still had her father and brothers. As often as they’d butted heads, those familial connections had kept her from loneliness so abject it might have destroyed her.

She wondered if Bryce Carlton had siblings. At a guess she would say not. There was an air of separateness about him, of isolation. As though he was used to being alone.

Meg fought against the spurt of sympathy. Bryce’s state of being was none of her concern.

‘Were you able to reach your friend?’ The query seemed loud in the silence that had lengthened between them.

‘I’m afraid not,’ Meg answered. ‘If you don’t mind I’ll try again in a few minutes.’

‘And if she’s still not home?’

If it made any sense at all, Meg would have sworn he sounded angry. ‘I suppose I’ll call another taxi.’

‘And use your last dollar getting home,’ he concluded gruffly.

With astonishment Meg realised he was angry. She whirled on him. ‘So? What’s that to you?’

‘You should have let me pay for your trip home when I offered.’

‘I’m sorry my aversion to taking charity from strangers has inconvenienced you.’

‘You’re not inconveniencing me.’ His jaw set in a way that belied his statement. ‘I simply think your pride has gotten in the way of your common sense.’

‘And I’m obviously in your way,’ Meg deduced. ‘I suppose I’ll call another cab right now and get it over with.’

As she reached for the phone Bryce’s hand came forward to stop her. His touch warmed her chilled skin in a way she found far too pleasurable. Yet short of assaulting him she could do nothing to escape the contact. She stood and felt the waves of heat purl through her as she stared up into his scowling face.

‘You’re still freezing,’ he noted after a long moment that crackled with an unsettling awareness. His voice seemed to have dropped an octave. ‘Why did you take off my jacket?’

Meg had to swallow before she could respond. Still, her voice sounded scratchy to her ears. ‘I could hardly keep it, could I?’

He stared at her a long time, his dark eyes studying each curve of her face. His perusal was intense, yet not entirely flattering. Meg felt as though her features were being catalogued, rather than admired. Annoyance rose swiftly, blessedly providing strength when it was needed. ‘Find anything interesting?’ she inquired, echoing his words of before.

His scowl deepened, became a glower. ‘I’m sure you’re aware of how attractive you are.’ He released her arm and abruptly turned away. ‘I’ll start a fire.’

This week each Diva will be putting up their list of character sex locations (yes the list has an official name). Each day any commenter who can match up at least one of that author’s books with its corresponding sex location will go in the draw to win a set of four backlist books–winner’s choice, one from each of us. So for eg you might say that that Lexxie’s sex in a Qantas First Class Lounge shower scene is from Balls Up (I gave that one away because that book hasn’t released yet!). Do you get the picture? Match up as many or as few as you can.

C’mon…what better reason to think of sexy deeds, ‘eh?

Blackthorne ~ Available Now

“And all that’s left is the ghost of your smile…and the whispers in the night…”

Okay, not really, but with the release of Blackthorne, the Heart of Fame series has come to an end. For those that have been with me from the beginning of this journey through Nick Blackthorne’s world, I thank you. For those new to the Heart of Fame series, I hope you enjoy Blackthorne (it totally can be read as a stand-alone).

For those that are sad the series has come to an end (I know there are at least one or two of you out there) don’t worry. While the series may be finished, there are still plenty of stories to be told in the Heart of Fame world.

It All Began With Tropical Sin…

A long time ago I wrote a novella called Tropical Sin. It was part of the Bandicoot Coveseries, along with books from Jess Dee and Vivian Arend. In Tropical Sin, the readers got to meet a disallusioned rock star called Nick Blackthorne. Nick was only ever meant to be in that one book. But he wouldn’t shut up and before I knew it, I was writing his story, Love’s Rhythm, the first book in the Heart of Fame series. Who would have thought there would be 7 more to follow…
Blackthorne

And so we come to the last book of that series. Book Eight. Blackthorne. For those of you who have been with me from the beginning of the series, this is Josh’s book. Josh, who we first met as a 15 year old small-town country boy who’d grown into his teenage years without knowing who his father was. Suffice to say, I shed quite a few tears while writing this book.

Rhythm is in his genes. She is in his heart.

Caitlin Reynolds doesn’t care if the rock star lookalike trying to get into her bar is who he says he is. Sticking to the rules is a big reason the Chaos Room is the hottest velvet rope in Sydney.

Okay, so he’s freaking hot, but she’s been ignoring her hormones since her fiancé left her to go be a doctor in Somalia and then went missing.

After a shattered knee ended his promising soccer career, it seemed only natural for Josh Blackthorne to follow in his father’s rock-god footsteps. Now he’s a megastar, lusted after by women—and men—the world over. But he’s been in lust with Caitlin since he saw her picture years ago.
When Caitlin realizes Josh is who he says he is, she’s the first to make it right. But no matter how badly his seduction makes her want to melt into his arms, there’s a ghost hanging over their heads. A ghost who turns out to be not so legally dead after all…

Product Warnings
Contains a rock star who’s livin’ the dream and livin’ it large, a self-made businesswoman with a weakness for a cheeky smile, and a red-hot battle of tormented wills. May stimulate a desire to throw your panties onto the nearest stage.

A Snippet

He kissed her silent. Stole the rest of her ridiculous statement with a soft brush of his lips over hers.

No tongue, not even enough pressure to really feel. Just a feathering of his skin against her skin, just a lingering melding of their breaths.

He held her, aligned their hips, pressed the steel pole of his erection to the soft curve of her sex and silenced her protest with a kiss softer than the caress of a butterfly wing.

For a perfect moment, Caitlin forgot the weird reality of her life and lost herself in that kiss.

For a perfect heartbeat-long moment.

And then it was over.

He drew his head away from hers, seeking out her eyes with his gaze. “Or maybe,” he whispered, his voice a little shaky, “you just wanted me to do that?”

Pressing her palms to his chest, Caitlin pushed him away.

Heat filled her cheeks. “Boy, have you got an ego. I didn’t want you to do that.”

Liar.

Josh seemed to agree with the traitorous little whisper inside her head. He let out a low laugh, an entirely devious sound her body reacted to with entirely too much need. “Ego or not, I think you did. And I think you liked it as much as I did.”
