Finding the right spot – Sex locations, Day 3

The Divas have been having a lot of fun of late, discussing all the places our characters have done the dirty. Sami made a list first, which you can see right here. Then it was Lexxie’s turn. (Click here for her list.)

The thing is with erotic romance writing, our characters do the dirty A LOT! And let’s face it, if they confined themselves to their bedrooms, things could start to get a wee bit boring, no? So it’s up to us, the authors, to throw our characters into places or situations that’ll spice up the scenes.

Truth is, very few of my love scenes take place in the bedroom. All too often, they’re so keen to get it on, that soft, comfortable bed is just too damn far away. So, where have they done it? Well let’s see:

1) In the lounge room. (That seems to be a favorite of mine. There’s even a scene on a couch which takes place as the NYE midnight firework show begins. And oh, yeah, there are a lot of fireworks!)

2) In the dining room. (On the table and a chair. Different books though.)

3) In the bathroom. (Not in the shower or bath, as you’d expect…)

4) A gazebo in the middle of a rose garden. (Several times. Turns out the gazebo was a special place for this hero and heroine.)

5) The dressing room of a sports stadium. (With sixty thousands people packed into said stadium.)

6) An outdoor spa/jacuzzi.

7) A doctor’s waiting room.

8) On the deck of a boat.

9) On the ladder of a boat.

10) In an office. (With someone watching through the window. And without someone watching through the window. And in his office chair. And her office couch.)

11) In the garden during a party.

12) In his parents’ garden, behind the massive eucalyptus tree. (Don’t worry. It was night. The parents never saw a thing.)

13) On the balcony of a hotel room. (Man, I adore love scenes set in hotel rooms! I have heaps of them.)

14) Tied to a chair. (Well, she was. He’d gotten free by then.)

15) On a bar. (With three hot men! How’s that for one lucky lady?)

16) On a poker table. (Never fear, the cards and chips had been packed away.)

17) On a kitchen table. (Sturdy table that one.)

18) On the trunk of a car on the side of a road in broad daylight. (Phew, lucky the road was deserted.)

19) On a cliff overlooking the ocean. (Spectacular views, I might add.)

20) In her dreams. (And his)

Now, for the fun bit…A CONTEST!

You’ve read my list. Now check out Lexxie and Sami’s lists. (Rhian’s is coming soon!)

Each day any commenter who can match up at least one of that author’s books with its corresponding sex location will go in the draw to win a set of four backlist books–winner’s choice, one from each of us. So, for eg, you might say that the love scenes in the gazebo are from Red Red Wine – and you’d be right. (I gave that one away because I’m super cool that way 😀 ). Do you get the picture? Match up as many or as few as you can.

Have fun. (Oh, and don’t be shy to add a couple of places you might have tried. Who knows? They may just land up in a Diva book one day.) 😉

Good luck,

Jess

Variety is the Spice of Life – Sex Locations Day 1

As an erotic romance author, one of the things you strive to do to is make the sex in each book distinct and different. This takes some inventiveness and some serious risk taking at times from your protagonists. When you’ve racked up 15 books (many more from the other Divas), most of them containing more than one sex scene each and many of them sporting many more than that, it’s Sexy Couplenot easy to make each scene stand out from the other.

This is why I’ve recently turned to play equipment. Yep, as in a public park. At night, no lights (aka no witnesses), not a lot of moonlight. Nobody’s naked on the jungle jim and no DNA gets left behind, this is strictly a preview to the main event. But still, I’ve resorted to foreplay involving a slippery slide. LOL.

Casting my mind back, my characters have committed sex acts in a wide range of places

SAMI’S CHARACTER SEX LOCATION LIST

In a bed (naturally)

On the couch

On the kitchen table

Against the wall

Against the door (same thing as above, really)

In a stable (but NOT on a horse. At least not yet)

In the shower

In the ocean

In a resort swimming pool

In a car (stationery)

In a car (moving)

On a boat (anchored. You can only handle one rudder at a time)

At the beach

On a balcony

In the middle of a vineyard

On a rug in front of the fire (it’s a cliché because it’s good)

At the bar in a hotel

At a lookout (very public, oooh)

Over the phone

In the back yard

That’s quite a list. But I reckon the playground example shows there are many more places to explore.

Anyone want to go canoeing?

**********CONTEST**********

This week each Diva will be putting up their list of character sex locations (yes the list has an official name). Each day any commenter who can match up at least one of that author’s books with its corresponding sex location will go in the draw to win a set of four backlist books–winner’s choice, one from each of us. So for eg you might say that that Sami’s sex in the stables scene is from Eternal Brand (I gave that one away because that book hasn’t released yet!). Do you get the picture? Match up as many or as few as you can.

Sounds like fun to me :).

The Contest Continues…

pleasingthedoctor_msrI posted about this at my blog the other day and promised I would also mention it here for those who missed it. Read on for your chance to win a naughty novella!

I’m pleased to announce that my naughty little BDSM elements novella is finally available at all third party sites, including Amazon! Anyone who has been waiting to get it in Kindle format you are now free to do so. Yay!

To celebrate, I thought I’d give away two copies of Pleasing the Doctor to two lucky commenter.

So what is Pleasing the Doctor about? Alice is a divorcee who hasn’t had sex since she left her husband, and figures a no strings one night stand is in order to get her back in the sexual race. Too bad her blind date is a total dud. Enter Dr Damien De Luca, a doctor from out of town (or so she thinks) who chases off her bad date and proceeds to take her on a kinky journey that shows her the submissive side of herself.

But can a woman who had to fight hard for independence really get into a relationship with a guy who expects obedience?

I think Alice is going to have fun finding out, don’t you? :)

Pleasing the Doctor is now available at Ellora’s Cave, Booktopia, Barnes & Noble, ARe, Amazon or your favourite e book retailer.

Below are five of my favourite snippets from the book. Vote for the best  in the comments for your chance to win one of two copies of the book:

1. Heat spiraled inside her, expanding like a phoenix that rose, wings stretching, from the ashes of her once healthy sexual appetite. Flames flickered to life, fanned by the weight of Damien’s hand resting on her thigh. On top of the dress, not under it like Ron, yet it seemed so, so much more intimate.

2.  She didn’t even want to imagine how Damien De Luca would behave if he wasn’t holding back.

That was a lie. She did want to, was already imagining it in fact. He was the take-charge type. If they were alone he’d have her pinned to the wall by now, his mouth on hers, his hands… Her breathing quickened as she pictured all the places she’d be willing to let him put his hands. Basically everywhere. And his tongue—his impossibly arrogant, clever tongue. She wanted that everywhere too.

Her nether regions throbbed, a hard pulse of base lust. She was hot for him. A complete stranger who’d barely touched her and she was fired up like a race car that had been held back in the pit too long.

3.  Still without looking at him, Alice gathered her evening bag from where she’d hooked it over the back of the barstool and stood. “Well, that was…” She had no words, something that would have shocked her ex-husband Cal. He always told her she talked everything to death, that it took all the fun out of things. Not so boring now, am I, Cal? Boring people didn’t let strangers finger them in public. She was pretty sure it was against the boring person code.

4.  “It’s been over a year, so forgive me if I don’t know what the hell I’m doing.”

Damien loosened his grip on her, gave her a little space. “You want me to be gentle with you?”

“God, no.” Alice struggled not to blush again as Damien laughed at her blurted response.

He released her entirely and stepped back, eyeing her as though seeing her for the first time. “You know, I think I really like you.”

Alice shrugged, using humor to pretend she wasn’t warmed by the declaration as she followed him farther into the room. “You’re quite lickable yourself.”

He cocked a brow at her intentional mispronunciation. “Tell you what, I’ll let you lick anything you want…if you take off your dress.”

5.  “Don’t be scared. I got carried away but I can slow down if you need me to. It’s hard because you’re so sexy. And so beautifully submissive.” He angled her head back so he could look at her. “You had no idea, did you?”

Alice’s lips trembled. Her voice did too. “I h-have a good job. I’m a team leader at a bank. I have my own money. I left a marriage that didn’t make me happy.” Realizing her cheeks were wet, Alice hid her face in his shoulder once again. “I’m not weak,” she finished, ignoring the fact that physically, right now, she was just that. Weak and tremulous and needy.

“I know you’re not. You’re strong—strong enough for me.”

So what do you think? Let me know!

Sami

PS I’ll leave this comp open until Friday and announce the winners here!

Yes, I’m a REAL Author

I can’t help it really. I grew up and fell in love with books in a time long before the digital revolution brought e books to the forefront (loooong before :)). I used to love walking into a book store and seeing all those shelves of new unread stories. I loved the smell of both new paperbacks and old. I loved seeing books lined up on my shelves–sometimes I would take them all out and just look at their covers, filled with anticipation at the thought of what I might read next. It was all so delicious! And even though I’m now primarily an e book author and a digital convert (I love the convenience of my Kindle, the instant gratification of downloading any book I want at any time day or night), I have a slight hangover from those early days. I still feel on some level that being a published author isn’t quite real, as in REAL real, until I can pick up my own book in my hands and flip through the pages.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Ahhhh, smell that anticipation.

Today–ten months after the digital version was released, almost two years since it was accepted, three years since I wrote the first sentence by hand in the notebook I’ve kept by my desk all this time–my MMF erotic romance novel, Erica’s Choice, is finally released in print.

Yep, I’m a real author! (and yes I know digital is real too and I’ve learned to be just as excited, if not more excited by digital release days and seeing my book on digital shelves, but please read the first paragraph again).

 **************************CONTEST***********************************

To celebrate I’m running a contest especially for Australian readers (sorry US folk, but if you’re in need of something to read, check out the massive contest they have running over at International Heat this week–heaps of ways you can win a massive booty of reading treasure!).

All you have to do is comment on this post, follow me on twitter, or like Sami Lee Author on Facebook. All new follows/likes/comments will go into the draw to win a signed print copy of Erica’s Choice. You don’t have to do all three, only one of these to go in the draw, but if you do all three your name’s going to go in that hat 3 times (yes, I use an actual hat and my girls draw the names for me :). It’s totally random!).

I’ll keep entries open until the end of the week and make the draw on the weekend.

Erica’s Choice

EC Cover 200x300One three-alarm night ignites a firestorm of complications…

High school teacher Erica Shannon isn’t a one-night stand kind of girl. Pair that with an aversion to relationships, and she’s resigned to no love life at all. Then one horrifying discovery propels her off her take-no-risks path, and into the arms of the stars of her midnight fantasies.

When his friend and fellow firefighter threatens to make a move on Erica, Corey figures he’d better get over the notion that she’s way out of his league—fast—before he has to get in line.

Griff never thought he’d get the chance to introduce Corey to the combustible delights of multi-partner play, until he senses the sheer volume of sexual energy surging beneath Erica’s repressed exterior.

A blazing night of passion has unexpected consequences. Corey is surprised to discover the woman of his dreams, and that he doesn’t mind sharing her—or himself—with Griff. But Griff finds his heart pulled down a romantic path he vowed he’d never venture again.

Erica? She’s got a problem on her hands. Hold two, hardwired-to-rescue firemen at arm’s length—and away from her heart—until she’s fought and won a battle that may well destroy her.

Warning: One tortured woman and two hunky Aussie firemen indulging in three-way love. Scenes of the male/female, male/male, male/male/female and the male/female/male variety (whew!). Also includes anal sex, mild spanking, cussing, phone sex, fire trucks and tearjerker moments.

Thanks everyone!

Sami

Aussie Author Showcase Day 8–Elise K Ackers

Join me in welcoming our next Showcase guest, Elise K Ackers. Elise was a storyteller before she was a writer. For Elise K Ackershours on end she would recount every moment of her kindergarten days to her mum, pausing often for dramatic effect. She would help her dad finish bed-time stories – sending the family dog and cat to the moon, amongst other adventures. And almost from the start her parents knew. They just knew what she’d grow up to be.

A writer, obviously!

So Elise, tell us a little about your latest book.

Unforgettable is my latest contemporary romance and my first with Escape Publishing. It’s a second chance story about two people who once ruined their chance of being happy together, now facing the chance of getting it right. The book involves a redevelopment project subplot, deep characterisation, and the popular amnesia romance trope.

A small element of Unforgettable is non-fiction. I used to work on a big-scale redevelopment of a Melbourne concert hall, and it was that experience which inspired me. I was fascinated by the construction, by the dust and the progress and the innovative solutions to complex problems. I ended up inventing a cast of characters, dropping them amongst the rubble, and plotting my way out!

Unforgettable: Blurb

Unforgettable_cvrIn hospital following a near-fatal accident, Connor has temporary retrograde amnesia, and there’s a blank slate where the last three years of his life should be. It’s a woman with haunted eyes and secrets who offers to help him rediscover his past.

Colleague, friend and ex-lover, Emma warns him they must be discreet. No one knows about their past relationship, and for the sake of their jobs, no one can. She reintroduces him to his life and the fascinating redevelopment project they are working on, and the more time Connor spends with her, the more he wants a future with her in it.

But Emma blames herself for Connor’s accident and she won’t confess to what broke their relationship in the past. Now Connor is fighting for love, for his job, and for another chance.

A story about second chances, a second look, and the futility of fighting fate, Unforgettable explores the concept of walking a path already travelled and learning from your mistakes.

Excerpt:

There was a long pause, and Emma knew it was time for the inevitable question. The one that could see her being shown the door again. Had she learned her lesson? Would she do things differently this time, or would she try again to hide what had eventually broken his heart?

“Why?” Conner said.

She didn’t dare look at him, she didn’t have the courage to see how he was looking back at her.

“You found out something about me.” A tear fell before she could look away. Mortified, she dropped back onto the couch and stared at her lap, her hair a blessed screen around her face. “And it changed everything.”

She heard him move, then the seat cushion beside her sagged under his weight. His hand touched her shoulder. “Were we in love?”

Damn him. Damn his amnesia and his awful questions. She should have gone home, left him to find his own way back here. It cost her a great deal of energy to answer. “If we were, we never said it to one another.”

She had loved him so much that it had kept her up some nights. Her life had become duplicitous: she had eaten and loved, breathed and loved.  Everything she had done, every thought she had had… It had all been done with a heart so swollen she had often wondered how she’d contained it within her chest. And still she loved. Every day a little more than the last. And every time she looked into those eyes—those eyes that had once watched her like she was all that mattered in the world—another little fissure appeared in her battered heart.

She started when fingers parted her hair and pushed it back from her face. She looked up slowly, numb with pain and longing and a terrible heartache that had been her constant companion for months now, and waited for the rebuff. This was too much for him to deal with right now. He had a life to rebuild, and it shouldn’t start with a crying woman on his couch. She had her dignity. He wouldn’t have to push her away twice.

A lie, she thought. She had no dignity when it came to Connor. She would wait in the wings for a lifetime, hoping for him to one day open his heart to her again.

But he shouldn’t have asked her about this so soon. She’d wanted to help him piece together what he had lost, and now they had crossed a line they couldn’t return from. She didn’t have a current role to play now. She was the ex-lover. She’d expired. And her second chance had lasted little more than three days.

“Hey,” he whispered. His fingers trailed along her cheekbone then down her throat. “Don’t cry. I’m sorry I pushed. Please don’t leave.”

She looked at him. “What?”

“I won’t hurt you again. Please stay, I still need you. That was wrong of me to… I had to make sense of how I feel whenever I see you. And why I miss you so much all the damn time.” He stared at his hand, which had curled around the curve of her neck. “I don’t remember you. But I ache for you. Everything inside of me is telling me that you’re all I need to know.”

He looked at her mouth, lingered on the sight of it, and then met her gaze. Something in her loosened and fell. Something else fractured. Her heart screamed with longing and her head tried to warn her, to save her.

But she leaned forward.

Okay I want to read this now! You can buy Unforgettable at Escape, Amazon, iTunes and Google Play. You can also take your chances in Elise’s GIVEAWAY. Details at the end of the post.

Now it’s time for the nitty gritty 🙂 Elise hits the Diva Couch

1.       Name your celebrity free pass

Jensen Ackles, hands down. That man has inspired many a male protagonist for me. I’m a big fan of the show Supernatural and I have to confess that sometimes I’m not really aware of what’s going on, so much as how he moves around the room!

2.       If you knew your next meal would be your last, what would you have?

Strawberry baked cheesecake and vanilla icecream from an amazing little deli in South Melbourne. Clearly I prefer dessert over a main course, but if it had to be a main, it would be lamb shank pie from one of my favourite pubs.

3.       Tell us about the worst day job you ever had

It was a customer service position in a boutique kitchenware store. Once I discovered that my responsibilities wouldn’t extend beyond ringing up sales and dusting products for most of the day, I explained to the manager that I’d made a mistake. She agreed (I think the ‘caged animal’ look on my face was bad for business) and I left after the first day. It’s not high up there as far as bad experiences go, but maybe I’ve been lucky with my day jobs.

4.       Describe your writing in 3 words

Character driven, layered.

5.       If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you’d buy for yourself?

Insurance – ha! I’d probably buy myself something small but frivolous to enjoy for the length of time it took to get the money in the bank, into high-interest accounts and into some property investments, then I’d go on an overseas holiday with what was left. Sorry, no spending-bender from this one. I’m a little too deliberate with my money.

6.       Favorite comic book superhero

Superman. I have heaps of movies and almost all of the television shows featuring him and I’m hanging out for the next instalment on the silver screen. I just love the Clark Kent vs Superman persona/s, and the silliness of the disguise. A pair of glasses fools the world? Classic! It was the love story which dragged me in, though. Lois Lane loves Superman, Clark Kent loves Lois Lane – it’s the best love triangle I’ve seen! And he’s so idealistic and handsome. An all-round winner.

7.       Tattoos—love or hate?

I used to hate them, but then I dated a man who turned out to have a good half a dozen of them in discreet places. Imagine my surprise! However, each of them were so important to him – they represented people or moments in his life and that’s what really brought me around. If something is special enough to a person that they want to carry a reminder of it on their skin, then I’m mostly all for it. Now it’s just the bows that I don’t understand. What do the bows represent? Someone tell me!

8.       Best writing advice ever received

It’s actually a Winston Churchill quote, and I’ve turned to it a few times. “If you’re going through hell, keep going.” Simple enough, but perfect for a writer who’s been staring at a screen for hours, despairing about his or her progress. To me, that quote reemphasises the importance of perseverance; a skill every writer needs to have.

Thanks Elise! To find out more about Elise and her books visit her website or join her on twitter or facebook

And now for the

GIVEAWAY

One lucky commenter will have their name drawn out at the end of the week and Elise will gift that person a copy of Unforgettable. It’s that simple! So tell us what you think–do you have a favorite amnesia plot book? (I love them myself).

Erica’s Blog Tour Excerpt 2

“Erica.” Corey tried for a soothing tone. “I think you’re a stunner.”

“But you also think I’m frigid, is that it?”

Corey could have sworn there was a smirk in Griff’s voice. “I never said that.”

“You’re just a bit…daunting.” Her eyes narrowed, and Corey hurried to fix the damage. “I mean to me. A bit. Because you seem really smart, and probably date doctors or lawyers, blokes with degrees, instead of guys like me.”

Guys who barely finished high school and had to take the aptitude test twice before they’d let him become a fiery. Corey figured his verbal fumbling was only highlighting the notion he wasn’t as intelligent as her or the men she was probably used to hanging out with. His heart felt heavy as he finished. “I thought you might tell me to take a walk.”

Her anger seethed in the silence for a few moments during which Corey was certain he’d blown it completely. Why did Griff have to open his big mouth?

Then abruptly, Erica spoke, her words coming out in a staccato rhythm. “The last man I dated was a history professor. His name was Doug. We dated for over two years. We had plenty to talk about, but he was hardly interested in touching me. I want someone who’s interested in touching me.”

Corey was so stunned by the idea that Erica’s ex-boyfriend hadn’t been all over her every minute of every day that he didn’t speak for a moment. Into the silence, Griff’s laugh danced. His voice was warm and raspy. “I think you can stop looking, Red.”

Corey watched in astonishment as Griff reached up and smoothed a hand over Erica’s hair. It was a gesture filled with surprising affection, with tacit apology for his frankness. It was also a liberty taken that Corey was amazed Erica allowed. But she didn’t upbraid Griff or wrench away. Instead she closed her eyes on a sigh, as though his touch contented her, made her…

No way. No way is Griff turning her on.

Question: How long did Erica date Doug?

I’ll announce the winner at the end of the weekend on my blog (www.samilee.com). But don’t forget to leave your email address so I can contact you direct. Other stops on the tour are:
